DCS RF24DE4 Outdoor Refrigerator Drawers Repair

Drawers behave differently from a swing-door cabinet, and the RF24DE4 has its own list of things worth checking.

About this model

Model overview

The RF24DE4 is a 24-inch outdoor refrigerator in drawer form, from the DCS outdoor refrigeration series, and it is listed as current. Drawer units are popular under a counter next to the grill, so they live close to heat, grease haze and splashes, and they are opened many times during a gathering.

Common complaints with drawers

A drawer that will not close flush lets cold air spill out, and the interior warms quickly. A drawer that closes but still runs warm points to airflow, the fan, the sensors or the controller. Rattles and scraping noises often come from a drawer slide with debris, or from items stacked so high that they brush the frame.

Codes DCS lists for refrigerated drawers

DCS publishes fault codes for its 24-inch refrigerated drawers. E2 is a condenser fan motor fault, see the E2 page. E3 is an evaporator thermistor fault, see E3. E4 is a display thermistor fault, see E4. When the unit flashes one of these, an audible alarm sounds six times a minute. Write down exactly what you see; the wording on your display may differ from the list.

Installation points to keep in mind

  • Drawers need free air around them; a tight cut-out or a stacked cabinet front can trap heat.
  • Fog and salt air leave film on the grille and the contact points.
  • A wet GFCI outlet beside a pool bar is a frequent hidden cause of a dead unit.
  • Items kept in the drawer must not block the interior fan path.

Safe things to try

Empty and re-seat anything stuck near the front, close the drawer fully and check that it clicks into place, look at the outlet and the breaker, and clean the front grille. One controlled power reset is fine. Do not open the base or touch the refrigeration lines.

Where the label hides

Usually inside the drawer opening or on the cabinet wall. Photograph it for us. If your drawers refuse to cool at all, this troubleshooting article walks through the symptom, and our DCS refrigerator repair service and refrigerator guide cover the whole family.
