Professional kitchens use warming drawers hard, and the WDVI30 shows wear in predictable places.

About this model

Model overview

The WDVI30 is a 30-inch warming drawer in the DCS Professional series. Unlike the outdoor drawers, it is not listed with an outdoor designation, so it typically lives indoors beneath a wall oven or a range, in a kitchen where it is opened many times a day. Check the label for the series and model year.

Where it goes wrong

Heat that fades, an interior that stays cool while the front warms, a drawer front that rubs against the cabinet, and controls that no longer respond top the list. In a busy Bay Area home kitchen the drawer also collects crumbs and spills along the slides.

What we test

  • The circuit feeding the drawer and the way it behaves when switched.
  • How heat builds and spreads once running.
  • The glide and the stop of the slides.
  • The cabinet cut-out and the adjacent oven or range.

Install notes for built-in indoor use

A drawer under an oven shares the cavity with a hot neighbor. A tight cabinet, a missing gap for airflow or a shifted plinth can make it run hotter or struggle to warm. Houses with remodeled cabinetry sometimes shift the alignment slightly.

Before you call

Empty the drawer, wipe the interior when it is cool, and look for foil or tray edges catching. Reset the breaker once if it tripped. Do not take the drawer front off. Do not store plastic or anything flammable inside.

Small signs worth noting

A faint burning smell the first time you use it after months, a ticking that continues after you switch it off, and a front that rubs the cabinet edge are all small signs that deserve a note. Write them down with the dates, and share them when you request a visit.

Because remodels sometimes replace the cabinet beneath a drawer, a drawer that once ran fine can start to rub or overheat after the work. Tell us if anything in the surrounding cabinetry, the oven or the floor changed recently; it often points straight to the cause.

Finding the label and next stops

Behind the warming drawer front is the usual place. If the unit sits below a range, the oven page may help too, such as the RDT-305 dual-fuel range. The service outline is on the DCS warming drawer repair page, and the lineup is in the warming drawer guide. For heating complaints read this troubleshooting article.
