A discontinued RGS series gas range, serviced by technicians who start with the label.
The RGS-305 comes from the RGS series of DCS gas ranges and is no longer sold new. The number is short, but it carries information: R for range, G for gas, S for the series. When you call with that on the label, we know which burner and oven layout to expect before we arrive.
Owners usually describe the problem in terms of what they see on the stove. Here is how those descriptions map to causes.
Our write-up on a range that clicks continuously explains the second item in more detail.
Stop there. Anything beneath the cooktop is for a technician.
If you smell gas, leave the kitchen, do not touch light switches or the appliance, and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.
The RGS-305 often sits in older kitchens where the wall behind the range holds the gas stub and the outlet. Cabinets either side limit how far the range can be pulled out, so tell us about tight clearances. Coastal humidity can leave a film on caps and igniters, so a quick wipe before a visit sometimes reveals the cause.
Photograph the label (see finding the model number), describe the symptom, and we diagnose before any repair, send a written estimate and wait for your approval. For the broader picture see our DCS range repair service and the ranges guide. The sister RGT-305 comes from a different series.
It is the series letter. Together R for range, G for gas and S for the series, it describes a gas range from the RGS line.
It is no longer sold new, but a diagnosis shows what the installed range needs, and we repair what you approve.
A yellow flame points to poor combustion, often from blocked ports. Turn the burner off, let it cool, and book a visit if cleaning the cap does not help. If you smell gas, leave the home.
On ranges it is usually on the frame behind the oven door or inside the storage drawer area. Use the model-number guide if it is not obvious.
