About this model

Model overview

The CP-364GD is a gas cooktop in the CP series and is no longer sold new. Check the label for the width and burner count. The label on the cooktop will settle that, and our technician confirms it before ordering anything.

Everyday wear on an older cooktop

A cooktop of this generation has typically seen many years of cooking, and its common failures follow from that.

  • Igniters that have lost their edge and spark faintly.
  • Burner heads with carbon around the ports.
  • Knobs that have drifted so the start position no longer matches the switch.
  • Cap seats that have worn and let caps wobble.

A wobbling cap can cause the same fault as a blocked port, which is why we treat both together. See our explanation of a burner that will not ignite.

Our approach

We observe the failing burner, check the spark, look at the flame once lit and then examine the connections. If cleaning restores normal operation, we say so and spare you unneeded parts. If a component is worn, the written estimate names it and you decide.

Do this before calling

  1. Cool the cooktop completely.
  2. Take off the caps, wash them with mild soap, and dry them.
  3. Look at the igniter tip for crust; wipe it with a damp cotton swab if you can reach it without force.
  4. Check power and gas valve position.

If you smell gas, leave the kitchen, do not touch light switches or the appliance, and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.

Installation

A built-in gas cooktop sits in a counter opening, and the trim, the hood above and the cabinet below all affect how we reach it. San Francisco kitchens often pack storage beneath the counter, so a clear path to the connection saves time. Damp, salty air can also leave deposits on exposed metal over the years.
